FRENCH SEWING BLOGS | MY TOP PICKS

French Sewing Blogs

I discovered many French sewing blogs via Instagram  – you know how that goes, you follow one, they suggest loads others. I am lucky that I can speak French, so I had no trouble following the words and well as the pics, but believe me, a picture speaks 1000 words and many of them are worth checking out just to browse the stunning images.

Also, it’s nice to see some other indie patterns rather than the ones we keep on coming back to, lovely though they are. Republique du Chiffon, Aime comme Marie, Pauline Alice, Orageuse, Louis Antoinette, DP Studio, Ready to Sew, I am Patterns, Dessine Moi un Patron, or Wear Lemonade are some of the ones loved by our fellow French bloggers.

So without further ado, let me wax lyrical about le blog a la Français (in no particular order).

UPDATED MAY 2018

Petits bonheurs dans mon atelier

petits bonheurs

Christine has a simple, but very elegant style, and the blog has many lovely pictures for each post, so it’s not even a question of Google Translating too much. She clearly works with great quality fabrics, getting a bit of thread envy sometimes :).

A few of my favourite pieces:

A Aime comme Marie Magnetique here and here  – I want that pattern so badly now!!

I don’t know where she actually lives, but all her pictures just remind me of a villa in Provence. What do you guys think?

Bee Made

I have been following Barbara from Bee Made for many years and I continue to be amazed by her skills in sewing, knitting and tricot. She sews mostly French Indie patterns – Republique du Chiffon, Aime Comme Marie, Desine Moi un Patron, Anne K Coutures, Louis Antoinette, etc – but also some international brands as well – Named and some Burda ones.  She sew for herself and her daughter, so there is plenty of inspiration for younger and older readers. The photography is always on point and there are some lovely cityscapes to admire as well. She also shares some delicious recipes with the same French flair.

Elpida Cusou Main

I have only come across Barbara’s blog recently, but I really enjoy reading her posts. She has the most amazing photography, not sure where in France she is based, but I can’t wait for a new post to see the scenery as much as the garments. Her style is very colourful, with bright prints and of course, all the French flair.

L’Atelier D’Alicia

L'Atelier d'Alicia

The lovely Alicia has only been sewing since 2015, but her makes are really lovely and inspiring. She has her own take to some well-known sewosphere favourites, like this Granite top from Dessine Moi un Patron in dress form, with the added on pearls. I also love her photography. She lives in the Alpes Haute Savoie, so you get to see a lot of different beautiful sceneries.

Carmencita B

Carmencita

Of course, no list of French blogger could ever be complete without Carmencita B. She is the French Queen Bee (a.k.a winner of the Coussu Main – the French equivalent of the Great British Sewing Bee). Some of you might have met her in person during the her visit to London earlier this year. I never had the pleasure, but I have been chatting on Twitter and she is a lovely lovely lady, not to mention an awesome seamstress!

L’Annexe Dilettante

L'Annexe Dillettante

I love Marielle’s simple, but perfectly executed creations and her beautiful photography. She sews mostly French Indie patterns, in subdued prints and classic solids. There is some amazing inspiration to be had, especially when it comes to tops, but I have spotted a nice coat or two.

Totally agree with you! Even though I’m a native french speaking girl, I prefer the english patterns. Much less confusing! 😉
