ONE YEAR WARDROBE COUNT PROJECT | JULY UPDATE + 5 SUMMER OUTFIT INSPIRATION

Summer outfit inspiration

Hello, dearest readers, hope you are having a great summer so far! July was a bit of a blogging holiday for me, but looking forward to resuming regular scheduling. I have so many exciting news to share with you very soon, and so many summer outfits to show you in the next few posts.

Whilst I have not been blogging loads, I sure have been wearing my me-made wardrobe with a vengeance! It definitely looks like I have more summer me-mades than winter or transition ones, as June and July almost felt like Me-Made-May! I can’t wait to share my favourite outfits (and it was really hard to choose) with you for all the warm weather inspiration.

But first… the July numbers!

NUMBER OF ITEMS WORN ONLY ONCE: 27 (LAST MONTH 31) + 10 SHOES (2 DIY)

INSIGHTS

This is the first month ever when the Me-mades overtook the RTW AND I wore at least one me-made item every single day. I told you it was like me-made may, ha ha!

I think it’s I have sewn a lot of summer clothes over the years and so I have quite a deep pool of items to draw on. I have also added two new hand-made items this month, which I was very enthusiastic about, so wore them loads.

The other super exciting thing this month is that I have totally upped my DIY game by making and wearing shoes made by me!! You might have seen on IG that I made my own trainers, and I totally got the bug, as I followed it up by making a pair of espadrilles too! And I have to tell you, they are definitely some of the most satisfying and fun makes I’ve ever completed!

Now that the analytics geekiness is out of the way, let me share some of my favourite outfits of the month!

SUMMER OUTFIT 1

I’m wearing: Me-made pleated midi skirt in heavy-weight crepe back satin; me-made cami in polyester satin; me-made twill biker jacket; suede heels from Marks & Spencer (old); earring from Marks & Spencer (old).

Thoughts: I have worn this combination a few times, and you can see it in previous capsules, but can I just say that it never gets old! I usually pair it with lower heel shoes that I can walk to work in, but this time I just packed my heels in my bag and went all out. I love these shoes so much, have had them for ages, but I hardly ever wear them, as they are quite high. But don’t they just look dreamy in this outfit?

SUMMER OUTFIT 2

I’m wearing: Me-made twill biker jacket; raglan sleeve poly crepe dress; RTW skinny black jeans (Marks & Spencer); RTW trainers (Marks & Spencer)

Thoughts: This summer I was all over wearing dresses over trousers. The weather has been so capricious that you never knew what to put on, so layering always seemed like a good idea. I don’t like wearing this dress on its own, not sure why. I just never reach for it. But when I decided to throw it over my favourite pair of skinny black jeans, magic happened! I think I just want to wear all my summer skirts over jeans now! Also, these sparkly trainers go with anything, and they are so comfortable. No brainer!

SUMMER OUTFIT 3

I’m wearing: RTW boxy grey jacket (old from Etam); me-made blush poly crepe blouse; skinny dark jeans (recent hand me down from a friend); gold *Ayden flats from Vagabond (still on sale!)

Thoughts: I was telling you I am really excited about a few new additions to my wardrobe. The first one of them is this blush crepe Vanlose top from my collaboration with the Danish indie pattern company, How to Do Fashion. This outfit also features another new addition, these skinny jeans that I got from a friend and that I completely fell in love with as soon as I tried them on. There is something about worn-in denim that feels like nothing else. Paired with one of my favourite (and almost 15 years old) RTW jacket and new gold flats, I feel so incredibly put together, yet very comfortable. I wore this for brunch with a friend.

SUMMER OUTFIT 4

I’m wearing: RTW denim jacket (old, New Look); me-made linen maxi dress; cork platform sandals (Office shoes, old); straw hat (Marks & Spencer); straw bag (La Redoute)

Thoughts: Nothing says summer to me more than straw hats, cork sandals and large straw shopping bags. So I put them all on for this outfit, just to make a point (or all the points, really!). I made this dress as part of a collaboration with Ann Normandy Design at the beginning of the year and waited a while for the weather to be hot enough for me to wear it in the real world. And I just love it as much as I imagined back in February when it seemed it would never be warm again! This little denim jacket I’ve had for almost 10 years now, and I wear it as much as ever, it just goes with everything, especially maxi dresses!

I’m wearing: Me-made denim twill biker jacket; Jersey t-shirt with stencil print (Basic InstinT by Sasha Secondo Piano, unblogged, stencil by me); me-made high wait poly crepe blush trousers; me-made leather trainers (unblogged); me-made waxed canvas bag

Thoughts: I really saved the best for last! This is the first 100% me-made outfit, including shoes and bag (excl. underwear). I am so proud of all of these items, as they have in a way all been first for me. This is the first jacket I ever made, the first t-shirt with a stencil by me, the first proper bag and, best of all, the first pair of shoes! I love them all, but more importantly, I love all of them together! The trousers are also new, part of my collaboration with the Danish indie sewing patterns company, How to Do Fashion. And they have also been worn loads, in spite of their faults. Because we all need some blush pink in our lives, right?

Thank you, hon! I got that and 2 other Etam jackets from an outlet in Ro years ago, and somehow they managed to survive in my wardrobe. I still love it!

You seem to be doing really well. Someone pointed out to me last month that I never wear or finish any of the clothes I make for myself so that has been my goal.

So far I have finished off 2 dresses, made a pair of short dungarees, darned all of my jeans that had holes and hemmed and finished off 2 pairs of trousers.

I am now busy making a maxi dress from a duvet cover I got from a charity shop for £3!

I also hemmed an all in one trouser suit thingy that i made ages ago and actually wore it. In fact i am wearing the short dungarees now.

Thank you for introducing me to My Lemonade. The Mona jacket was my aim but I have recently made the Davina Hack long dungarees which was really good fun. I have a subscription so get all the pattern free to download and a quarterly magazine with all sorts of fun hacks to try.
