Fabric Shop Directory

The main purpose of the Fabric Shop Project is to gather local information on the best places to check out when you are travelling and looking to sample the fabric shops in your destination. 

My role is to list existing information where available, but if not, I will invite local sewists to go round their local areas and gather reliable, honest, first-hand information, ready for travelling sewists to make good use of. This sure beats Googling, right?

WHAT GETS INCLUDED IN THE FABRIC SHOP DIRECTORY?

• Only information published by sewists (as opposed to commercial directories or travel guides). I am linking directly to blogs posts that have already been published in the past (and crediting the original blog and the year it was published). I have also reached out to a series of people around the world to join the project and create brand new guides for the places they live in. If they have a blog, they will publish the info there and I include the link in the main list, but if not, I will post it on this blog for easy access.
• Usually, there will be no more than 3 entries per city in chronological order (newest to the top)
• I will aim to have at least one local guide for each city, but will also include comprehensive visitors guide where a local one is not available or if it includes a different point of view or additional information. For very large cities, I might also include specialised guides (like for a particular more concentrated zone or tips on how to shop in a certain area that is very well known, like Goldhawk Rd. in London).
• Local guides will get priority over visitors guides, and I will replace older posts with new additions as they appear. I will put a comment next to each guide to make it clear what type of guide it is.

I will update the list as and when new guides are created, but at least once a month depending on new requests, and post a recap to let you know what’s new.

HOW THE FABRIC SHOP PROJECT WORKS:

• Find the Alphabetical guide page by clicking here or in the Menu bar>Fabric Shopping on Tour Project > Cities in Alphabetical Order
• Click on the first letter of the city you are looking for (only letters for featured guides are hyperlinked), this will take you straight there. You can have a quick scan of what is available so far by using the map (this will update as we add guides).
• Scroll until you find the city you are looking for
• Click on the hyperlink to read the original post (or check out the main blog).

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED IN THE FABRIC SHOP PROJECT:

• If you wrote a local guide on your blog and I didn’t find it yet, drop me an email (contacts on the sidebar)
• If you would like to write a guide about your city, get in touch to discuss details. This is valid for bloggers and non-bloggers, you just have to love fabrics and be willing to go around the shops to take pictures. Any place in the world is welcome – even if there is a guide already, so long as there are at least a few fabric shops. Online shops don’t count.
• Spread the word and please share this database on Social Media! The more people know about this, the more we can help give all that amazing fabric a loving home.
• Put a button on your blog. Please email me to send you the image.
