WHAT PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT AND WHY WE COLLECT IT

Personal data such as email address and IP address are collected through various processes on this website.

The following processes all generate personal data: analytics, cookies, use of contact forms, subscription forms and leaving comments. Please continue reading for more information regarding these processes.

COMMENTS

When visitors willingly leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, if you use Gravatar, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

SUBSCRIBERS

We use Mailchimp to manage subscriptions and to hold subscriber lists which include email and first name if you provided it when signing up. You can review Mailchimp’s Privacy policy here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/ 

We will never share any personal information with other unrelated third parties.  Subscribers to blog updates are free to unsubscribe at any time. If you do wish to unsubscribe you can do so via the link at the bottom of  any Mailchimp email or by contacting alex@sewrendipity.com

CONTACT FORMS

Personal data such as name, email address and IP address are captured when someone submits a contact form. We keep contact form submissions for only the time period necessary for dealing with enquiries and we do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes.

COOKIES

This website uses Cookies.

Cookies are small files that store and collect information that is used to make a websites user’s experience more efficient such as saving a website visitors preferences so that they won’t need to be set again on future visits.

You can manage cookies by changing the settings on your browser but bear in mind that some changes may affect your experience of using this website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

ANALYTICS

This website uses Google Analytics. This records information relating to your use of this site such as searches that you make, pages that you view, browser type, IP address, requested URL, referring URL and timestamp. All of this information is used to analyse usage of this site and helps me to understand users interests. The retention period for data associated with user identifiers and cookies is set at the minimum of 14 months. This time period for deletion takes effect from May 25th 2018.

WHO WE SHARE YOUR DATA WITH

This website is hosted by Siteground.com via the WordPress.org interface. By default, WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone, but if you wish, you can read their privacy policy here

It has already been mentioned in the subscribers’ section above that subscription lists are stored with Mailchimp.

HOW LONG YOUR DATA IS RETAINED

Contact form enquiries will be kept for 3 years unless you specifically request to have them deleted sooner.

As mentioned above, the retention period for analytics data is set to 14 months.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

WHAT RIGHTS YOU HAVE OVER YOUR DATA

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
